| New SIGMA installations open in Sant Cugat del Vallès (Barcelona) |
On Friday 17 December the new installations of SIGMA Gestión Universitaria, A.I.E. and SIGMA Software Factory Learning Center. Participating in the event were leading figures from the academic and university world such as the Director General of University Training and Orientation of the Ministerio de Educación, Mercedes Chacón; Rosa Cisneros, President of the SIGMA Association and Executive Manager of the Universidad de Zaragoza; Manuel José López, Rector of the Universidad de Zaragoza, Daniel Serra, Deputy Rector of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra ; Hans Nederlof, CIO at the University of Amsterdam; Pedro García Moreno, Executive Manager of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and Pedro Iraizoz, Executive Manager of the Universidad Pública de Navarra among others. SIGMA Software Factory Learning Center is an initiative that was started in 2009 s a result of the collaboration of Sigma Gestión Universitaria AIE and Fundació BCN Formació Professional, to offer computer studies and new technology students the opportunity to gain more specialist training in direct contact with the world of employment, carrying out real tasks and acquiring experience that could be useful to them in the future. This project has now taken another step forward. The “Factory” expands and improves the Learning Center, giving it new modern installations which enable Vocational Training students from all over Catalonia to carry out professional practice in new technology and computers and gain experience for entering the employment market. That is the case for Joel Molins, who following his experience last year who has gone from being a student to being a tutor on this programme. This young person, just 23, has joined the Sigma AIE workforce this year and will guide the new students. Specifically, it is expected that in 2010-2011eighty Young people will receive training in the “Factory” in Vocational Training with a view to fast-track entry into the world of work. With the new Learning Center, the Sigma AIE installations in Sant Cugat del Vallès cover a total of 1,250 m2. Esther Salat, Councillor for Education and Youth, from the Municipal Council of Sant Cugat, attended the event and indicated “the importance for the municipality of being able to count on companies like Sigma which give young people the opportunity to prepare for the world of work”. “Sigma is a Spanish university initiative that has managed to integrate Vocational Training into the European Higher Education system. It also brings Vocational Training strategically closer to university education and trains students to be competent in a range of fields”. Everyone wanted to give their support to this project and have been very satisfied with the initiative. Following the opening event a visit of the new Sigma AIE installations and the “Factory” was offered where the work being carried out by the Vocational Training students and tutors involved in the project could be seen in situ.

| SIGMA Gestión Universitaria takes part in the RS3G Steering Committee |
During the 26th and 27th of January SIGMA Gestión Universitaria has taken part in the new meeting of the rs3g Steering Committee held by the University of Malaga. The first task of the meeting was to review the vision and mission statements with the aim of giving a more open definition of the possible participants and emphasizing the need to contribute to the definition of standards at a European level. |

| More collaboration between the Ministry and the Alianza 4 Universidades |
The Ministry of Education, Social Policy and Sports and the association “Alianza 4 universidades", have signed an agreement for the exchange of information between the Observatory for the Monitoring of Research Activities at Spanish Universities (IUNE) and the Integrated University Information System (SIIU), relating to indicators of scientific activity carried out within the Spanish university system. |
