SIGMA University Management took part in the Sector Values seminar which took place on 26 May at the CaixaForum in Barcelona. The event formed part of the “Culture of Work” project organised by the BCN Professional Training Foundation with the support of the “La Caixa Foundation” and the involvement of the Barcelona Education Consortium and the Barcelona Municipal Institute of Education.

Ramón Grau, General Manager of SIGMA, presented the competences and values of work in the computing sector. He highlighted the importance of interpersonal relations and teamwork, claiming that “the work of a computer engineer is due to and aimed at people”. He also gave some examples of people whose initiative and creativity have played a large part in the work of the sector.

The meeting also included presentation by the Deputy Director of the Area of Social Action of the “La Caixa Foundation” Montserrat Cabré, the Director of the BCN Professional Training Foundation, Ricard Coma and a presentation by Carles Gironés, Director General of World Wide Quality Services. Gironés spoke about the past, present and future of professional training, the importance of understanding and being understood, of having broad knowledge of current technology with continuous training and an awareness of the value of specialisation without closing any doors.

More than one hundred students attended the event alongside around twenty academic staff, and they were able to hear about what are considered the most important values in the sector and many took the opportunity to ask questions.
